Helical milling for making holes on carbon fiber-reinforced polymer

Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) is widely used in various fields due to its excellent properties. However, machining defects such as delamination and burr are still the key issues constraining high-quality hole making on CFRP. This research takes helical milling process make holes CFRP two kinds of cutting conditions (dry jet cold air-assisted cutting) explored. Tool wear, force, delamination, surface morphology taken main indices be analyzed. The influences parameters (spindle speed n, axial feed per tooth fza, pitch ap) force investigated optimized. It turns out that air condition more suitable for with better qualities. smaller factor smoother successfully fabricated based optimized parameters.
